Apple has two augmented reality initiatives in the works and will release two types of AR hardware, a headset, and glasses, by 2023. The concept of the "metaverse," a virtual reality platform for socializing, conducting business, shopping, and playing games in a 3D digital environment, suggests that various tech companies, including Facebook, Microsoft, and Disney, are preparing for the metaverse. It is also mentioned that Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, is a proponent of AR and believes it has disruptive potential as a teaching tool.
